How to Install a Mileage Blocker — The Complete Step by Step Guide
One of the biggest advantages of our CAN Bus mileage blockers is that they require no specialist knowledge, tools, or coding to install. Here’s a complete walkthrough of the installation process.
What You’ll Need
- Your mileage blocker device (vehicle-specific)
- A trim removal tool (or a flat plastic card works fine)
- 30–60 minutes of time
- Our full written installation guide (included with every order)
- Optional: Extended Reach Cable Upgrade for easy ongoing activation
Step 1 — Locate Your Instrument Cluster
The mileage blocker connects to the instrument cluster connector behind your dashboard. The instrument cluster is the display panel directly in front of the driver — containing your speedometer, odometer, and warning lights. On most US vehicles, it’s accessible by removing the trim surround around the cluster.
Step 2 — Remove the Instrument Cluster Trim
Using a trim removal tool or plastic card, carefully pop the trim panel away from the dashboard around the instrument cluster. Most panels are held with plastic clips and require no screws. Work around the edges gently to avoid scratching. On most trucks and SUVs (F-150, Silverado, Escalade etc.) this can be done in under 10 minutes.
Step 3 — Unplug the Instrument Cluster Connector
Once the cluster is accessible, locate the main wiring harness connector on the back of the unit. Press the release tab and unplug it gently.
Step 4 — Connect Your Mileage Blocker
Your mileage blocker plugs in-line between the vehicle’s wiring harness and the instrument cluster connector. It’s a straightforward pass-through connection — one end plugs into the vehicle harness, the other into the cluster. No cutting, splicing or soldering involved.
Step 5 — Reassemble and Test
Reattach the instrument cluster, replace the trim panel, and start the vehicle. The blocker will be in pass-through mode by default — meaning mileage records normally until you activate it using the button combination described in your instructions.
Step 6 — Activate and Deactivate
Activation is done via a simple button combination on your steering wheel or indicator stalk (varies by vehicle). When activated, a subtle indicator confirms the device is running. Deactivate the same way when you’re done.
Using the Extended Reach Cable
If you added our Extended Reach Cable Upgrade, you can route the activation end to a convenient hidden location — under the seat, behind a trim panel, or in the glovebox. This means future activations require no dashboard removal at all.
